AVS offers language and region-specific services to developers, enabling localized voice experiences. Language models and regional services are all built in the cloud, so developers don’t have to do any of the heavy lifting. Your customers can speak to Alexa and receive responses and content in their preferred language and region.
Supported regions include:
USA, UK, Ireland, Canada, Germany, Austria, India, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Brazil, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Alexa can interact with customers in US-English, UK-English, CA-English, English with an Australian or Indian accent, German, Japanese, CA-French, FR-French, Italian, ES-Spanish, MX-Spanish, US-Spanish, IN-Hindi, BR-Portuguese, and SA-Arabic.
A customer located outside the United States
Emma is an Amazon customer located outside of the US. She recently purchased a device with Alexa built-in. During the out-of-the-box experience, Emma links to her Amazon account where she has set her current locale as her primary marketplace. The setting allows Emma to speak with Alexa in her local language, access region-specific and multi-language skills.
A customer located inside the United States
Ben is a German-speaking Amazon customer located in Seattle. He recently purchased a device with Alexa built-in. During the out-of-the-box experience, Ben links to his Amazon account, where he has set the U.S. as his primary marketplace. Wanting to speak with Alexa in German, Ben switches his primary language to German on the device. The setting allows Ben to speak German to Alexa, but still access local skills in the U.S.
